Raising a family in Pattaya: schools, hospitals, and where to live

Updated:

The international school catchment, the paediatric anchors, and the residential geography that follows from both

In this guide

Pattaya supports family life through specific institutions in specific places. Regents in Pong, TPIS and MIS in Nongprue, EFIP in Huay Yai. Bangkok Hospital Pattaya is the paediatric anchor; Jomtien Hospital the BDMS-network secondary. Pick the school, pick the area, pick the house.

Pattaya supports family life, but it does so through specific institutions in specific places. The decision tree for a relocating family runs through the school and the hospital first; everything else follows.

International schools. Regents International School Pattaya is the largest and most established, sitting on Moo 1 Pong, just north of Siam Country Club. It is part of the Nord Anglia group, runs ages 2 to 18 on the English National Curriculum leading to IGCSE, and offers a choice between A-Levels and the IB Diploma at Sixth Form (the only Eastern Seaboard school giving both tracks). Tuition for academic year 2025/26 runs roughly 436,050 THB at Nursery 2 to 829,350 THB at Sixth Form (Nord Anglia 2025/26 schedule), with boarding available as an add-on. Regents is non-selective in principle but operates a waiting list at the popular year groups.

Tara Pattana International School (TPIS) sits inland on Pattanakarn Road, Soi Tungklom-Tanman 9, in Nongprue, accessible from Mabprachan, Huay Yai, and central Pattaya. British curriculum, ages 18 months through Year 13, part of the International Schools Partnership (ISP) global group. Annual tuition runs roughly 132,000 THB at the youngest years to 445,000 THB at upper Secondary.

Mooltripakdee International School (MIS), often referenced locally as the Mabprachan-area bilingual option, is on Chayapornvitee 25, Nongprue, near Mabprachan Lake. British curriculum with Montessori in Early Years, ages 2 to 17, leading to IGCSE and A-Level. Annual fees run roughly 159,000 THB to 330,000 THB depending on year. Smaller and more intimate than Regents or TPIS.

École Française Internationale de Pattaya (EFIP) is the French-curriculum option, located in Huay Yai. Approved by the French Ministry of National Education and partnered with AEFE, it runs from maternelle (age 3) through terminale (age 18). The school sits on roughly 1.5 hectares (15,000 m²) with capacity for around 400 students, and runs a bridge-class system for non-French-speaking arrivals.

International School of Chonburi (ISC) in Banglamung, off Sukhumvit Soi 39, covers Early Years and Primary (no Secondary at present). Two further options sit further out and are part of the Pattaya catchment for families willing to commute: Garden International School Eastern Seaboard (GIS) in Ban Chang, Rayong, around 30 minutes south, and International School Eastern Seaboard (ISE) in Bowin, Sriracha, around 30 minutes north. GIS runs the English National Curriculum to IGCSE and IB Diploma; ISE runs an American AERO curriculum to Grade 10 with AP and IB Diploma in Grades 11 and 12.

The pattern: families choose the school first, and residential geography follows. Regents, TPIS, and MIS families cluster in Mabprachan, Siam Country Club, Huay Yai, and the inland Nongprue belt. Pratumnak and central Jomtien work for families willing to commute or for ISC families. EFIP families gravitate to Huay Yai and the eastern hillsides. GIS draws families south toward Ban Chang. Distance to school in morning traffic is the constraint that frames every other decision.

Paediatric medical. Bangkok Hospital Pattaya (BHP) at 301 Sukhumvit Road is the anchor: dedicated Child Health Centre with paediatric specialists, 24-hour emergency, multilingual staff (English, Russian, Chinese, Arabic), JCI-accredited, part of the BDMS group (the largest private hospital network in Asia). Jomtien Hospital, also in the BDMS network, opened as a clinic in 2014 and as a full hospital in May 2020; it now runs as a 232-bed sister facility covering paediatrics, obstetrics, and emergency. Pattaya Memorial Hospital on Central Pattaya Road and Pattaya International Hospital on Soi 4 Beach Road cover the lower-cost mid-tier with 24-hour ER. Bumrungrad runs a referral office in Pattaya, not a treating hospital; for Bumrungrad care the journey is to the Bangkok flagship on Sukhumvit Soi 3.

For severe paediatric cases families still travel to Bangkok (Bumrungrad, BNH, Samitivej Children's Hospital). Pattaya covers routine and most serious-but-stable, not specialist tertiary.

The residential geography. The most popular family residential areas, Mabprachan, Huay Yai, Siam Country Club, are inland east. They share a profile: villa stock, garden plots, school proximity, car-dependent lifestyle. Bedrooms come in threes and fours. Pool villas are the typical purchase rather than condos.

For families who chose central living: Pratumnak Hill works for families willing to commute inland and offers the walkable lifestyle that inland villas don't. Jomtien works for families using ISC or the Bangkok-Pattaya commute. The trade-off is space: a Pratumnak condo with three bedrooms is rare and expensive; a Mabprachan villa with three bedrooms is the default stock.

Practical considerations. The school year at most internationals runs August to June (Northern Hemisphere calendar). Fees are paid by term, quoted in baht. Most schools require an application interview and a placement assessment; the British schools (Regents, TPIS, MIS) typically run age-appropriate written and verbal tasks rather than competitive entry. Older year groups (Year 11 and Sixth Form at Regents) have a final entry point and discretionary admission.

Healthcare: every relocating family should register at BHP Pattaya in the first month and keep Jomtien Hospital as the secondary anchor. International insurance (Cigna, Allianz Worldwide, Bupa) covers BHP at network rates; verify your specific policy directly, since plan-by-plan coverage varies. Out-of-pocket for a routine paediatric visit at BHP runs roughly 1,000 to 2,500 THB; an X-ray or scan runs roughly 3,000 to 8,000 THB.

Daily life: the supermarket question becomes Villa Market and Foodland for international goods, with multiple Pattaya locations and 24-hour service at Foodland. Family parks and playgrounds are spread across the city; the inland-east villa estates typically build private playgrounds, and Family Park Pattaya (the sheep farm and animal park near Mabprachan) is the regular weekend destination for younger children. Pattaya Floating Market is the weekend cultural visit. The beach is everyone's default activity.

For families considering Pattaya: the school decision is the relocation. Pick the school, then pick the area, then pick the house.

8 IRES tips

  1. 01 Regents International has the longest waiting lists at entry year and Year 7. Apply 12-18 months ahead if possible. Confirm availability before you shortlist properties near Pong.
  2. 02 TPIS and MIS in Nongprue are the value-curve options. MIS Montessori early years suits families coming from progressive education systems. Ask us about the Nongprue villa cluster near both campuses.
  3. 03 EFIP in Huay Yai is the only French-curriculum option. If your children are already in the French system, continuity matters more than proximity to the beach. Huay Yai inland east puts you close.
  4. 04 Bangkok Hospital Pattaya's Child Health Centre is the paediatric anchor. For specialist referrals beyond what Pattaya offers, Bangkok is 90 minutes and Samitivej Sukhumvit is the standard escalation.
  5. 05 Mabprachan, Huay Yai, and Siam Country Club are where families with school-age children actually live. These are car-dependent but that's the tradeoff for villa space, a garden, and a pool.
  6. 06 International School Eastern Seaboard (Sriracha) and Garden International (Ban Chang) are commutable for EEC-employed parents who live in south Pattaya. Factor commute direction into school choice, not just curriculum.
  7. 07 Routine paediatric visits at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya cost 1,000-2,500 THB. Budget for quarterly check-ins, not just annual. The cost is low enough that preventive visits are viable without insurance stress.
  8. 08 Ask the juristic of any shortlisted building whether there are other families with school-age children in residence. Isolation in an adult-skewed building is a real friction point for children and parents.
